

John was born on September 9, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas.
John graduated from Midland High School and continued his education at Texas A&M University where he received a BS in Geology and Geophysics. He later studied Aviation Maintenance Technology at Midland College.
John enjoyed theatre and spent many years as the Villain in the Summer Mummers. John was also active with the Maverick Players.
John was member of the Midland Commemorative Air Force, the High Sky Wing. John worked on a variety of World War II planes, traveled often with the CAF and was a member of the mechanic team for FIFI.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Louise Baughman Meyer, Robert F Meyer and his wife Mary Ann McRae. John and Mary Ann married on August 8, 2000, in Scotland at the Ellean Donan Castle, a family castle for Mary Ann.
John is survived by his Stepson Thomas McRae Sloan and his wife Shirley of Midland and Katie Goggans and her husband Chris of Gun Barrel City. John had six Step Grandchildren Christopher Cherryhomes and wife Angela of Midland, Regan Coy and husband Alex of Houston, Joshua Mims and wife Monica of Midland, Sarah Cherryhomes of Mabank, Cavan Spence and wife Brooke of Alvin, Thomas Sneed Sloan and wife Zoë of Lubbock. John also had 9 great grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service held on Saturday, April 2 2022 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1412 W Illinois Ave, Midland, TX 79701.
