

Joseph William Brininstool passed away on April 9, 2013 after a long battle with lung cancer. Joe was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on December 6, 1932 to Brooks and Rose Brininstool and lived on a cattle ranch in Lea County, New Mexico. Joe later attended school in Jal, NM. After graduation in 1951, he went to Oklahoma University, graduating with a Petroleum Engineering degree in 1955. While at OU, Joe met Quentina Steinke of Oklahoma City in 1953. They were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral in Oklahoma City on August 28, 1954.
In June, 1955, Joe and Quentina, with their newborn son, went to Cisco, Texas where he worked for the Humble Pipeline Company. In September, 1955 Joe joined the United States Air Force moving the family first to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and then on to Ellington Air Force Base in Houston for navigation training. In 1956, it was on to Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, California for bombardier training. In mid-1957 Joe reported to the Strategic Air Command 393rd Bomb Squadron 509th Bomb Wing in Roswell, New Mexico to fly B-47s. Upon discharge from the Air Force at Portsmouth, New Hampshire in November, 1959 they returned to Houston, Texas where Joe rejoined Humble Pipeline.
Joe and Quentina were founding members in 1962 of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Houston. Joe was active for many years as an usher, lector, Eucharistic minister, member of the school board, council and finance committee. In Houston, Joe was elected to the Houston Jaycee Board in 1962 as Youth and Sports Director. During 1962 he was one of the co-chairs for the first Salk Polio Vaccine distribution to 1 ½ million people three times over five weeks. Joe was also selected as one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Men” of Houston that year. In 1965 he was the chairman and host for the Jaycee Junior Golf Tournament hosting 204 high school boys from fifty states and Puerto Rico. After a 28 year successful career with Humble, later renamed Exxon Pipeline Company, Joe opened a new office for the Exxon Supply Company in Midland, Texas to buy, sell and trade crude oil in 1983. In Midland in 1983, Joe and Quentina were founding members of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, and are presently members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Joe retired in 1992 and continued to live in Midland, where he enjoyed playing golf, dove and quail hunting, and volunteering for 12 years with Home Hospice.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Brooks and Rose Brininstool. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Quentina and six children, Joe Brininstool and wife Jill Holt of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Sandy and husband Steve Houser of San Marcos, Texas, Teri and husband Tim McQueen of San Angelo, Texas, Kathy and husband Clark Carter of Round Rock, Texas, Betsy and husband Curtis Nethery of Midland, Texas and Brooks Brininstool and wife Kristen of San Antonio, Texas, fifteen grandchildren: Tanner and Cutter Holt, Case, Dylan and Cassidy Houser, Jackson and Reagan McQueen, Rachel Brazell, Joey Carter, Quentin, Gracie, Brinin and William Nethery, Brooklyn and Cora Jane Brininstool; and five younger siblings Ed Brininstool, Carl David Brininstool, Rosemary Hindes, Brooks Brininstool, Jr. and Bernadette Brininstool. He is also survived by his loyal companion, Red.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Tanner Holt, Cutter Holt, Case Houser, Dylan Houser, Jackson McQueen, Reagan McQueen, Joey Carter, and Quentin Nethery. The Senior Golf group from Hogan Park Golf Course are all honorary pallbearers.
A rosary has been scheduled for 6:30pm on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass has been set for 10:00am on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Online condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com.
