

Juanez Groom, a beloved resident of Midland, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023 at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born and raised in Hamlin, Texas to Daniel and Dena Branscum, Juanez had a profound impact on her community through her kind-hearted nature and selfless acts of love. She was a devoted mother to her two children, Janice Mussman and her husband Lee of Abilene, Texas, and Derrell Groom and his wife Brenda of Odessa, Texas. Juanez shared a special bond with her children and was a constant source of support and encouragement in their lives.
As a grandmother, Juanez embraced her role with joy and dedication. She adored her six grandchildren, Brian McCleskey of Abilene, Texas, Brent McCleskey of Roanoke, Virginia, Will Mussman of Abilene, Texas, Caleb Groom of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Tiffany Groom of San Antonio, Texas, and Courtney Flud of Odessa, Texas. Their presence brought immense happiness to her life, and she cherished the time spent with each of them.
Juanez was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren who filled her days with laughter and love. Their youthful energy and innocence brightened her world, and she treasured the special moments shared with each of them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Groom and her great-grandson, Andrew McCleskey.
After graduating from Hamlin High School, Juanez embarked on a successful career at AT&T, where she dedicated thirty-seven years of her life, retiring in 1986. Throughout her life, Juanez touched the hearts of those around her with her compassionate spirit and unwavering faith. She sang in the choir at Kelview Heights Baptist Church and served in the children’s choir ministry. She had a nurturing soul and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She enjoyed many years volunteering in the Junior League of Midland and participating in the reading program at Bunche Elementary. Most days she could be found sewing matching outfits for her granddaughters and crafting with them. Her genuine warmth and infectious smile brought comfort and joy to those who had the privilege of knowing her.
The memorial service to celebrate the life of Juanez Groom will be held at Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park, located at 4616 N Big Spring Street in Midland, TX, on Friday, June 30th, at 10 AM. Prior to the service, a visitation vigil will take place on Thursday, June 29th, from 6 to 8 PM, also at Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home.
Juanez Groom leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and kindness. While her physical presence may be gone, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that she made a significant impact on the lives of those she held dear.
