Lois Jane Truss, a Midland resident for more than 65 years passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the age of 89 in Fort Worth, Texas. Jane grew up in Itasca, moved to Midland in 1940, and married Joe Sam Truss in 1941. They lived in a one-room apartment on North “A”, did not have a car and road a bicycle to work. She always shared, “that’s what everyone did.” Jane & Joe were married 65 years. They were members of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years and Jane was the Card Captain for the Myrtle Sunday School Class for many years, an assignment she truly loved.
Due to health reasons, Jane and Joe moved to Fort Worth in 2006 to be closer to their two sons. Bob and his wife, Pat, live in Arlington and Tom and his wife, Mary, reside in Fort Worth.
Jane loved her family and was abundantly blessed with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She enjoyed writing letters and keeping in touch with friends and family, especially those in Midland. The family is deeply grateful to those who stayed in touch with her through the years. Checking the mailbox was the highlight of her days and she would read and reread notes and letters.
Jane is survived by two sons: Robert Truss and wife Pat of Arlington, Texas and Tom Truss and wife Mary of Fort Worth. Grandchildren: Rob Truss & wife, Kim of Austin, Texas; Stephanie Hale and husband, Brandon of Oklahoma City; Michael Truss & wife, Elizabeth of Fort Worth, and Diana Truss of Fort Worth. Great Grandchildren: Tyler, Grayson and Bentley Truss of Austin, Texas; Elise, Sofia, Collette and Thomas Hale of Oklahoma City. Sister: Doris Burkhart and her daughter Lori of Lubbock, Texas.
Jane was preceded in death by husband, Joe Truss, granddaughter, Lisa Truss, and brother, Horace Paul Irvin.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Child Study Center, 1300 West Lancaster, Fort Worth, Texas 76102, benefiting children with developmental disabilities.
