

After years of living with Alzheimer’s, Myron Grady Dickson passed away on Tuesday May 24, 2011 in Plano, Texas. He was born September 18, 1922 in Olustee, Oklahoma. His parents were William Sanford Dickson and Mary Luvicy Rogers Dickson. He attended schools around Altus, Oklahoma, eventually graduating from Blair High School in Blair, Oklahoma. Myron continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geology.
Myron enlisted in the Navy in 1942, serving in Norfolk, Virginia, Alameda Air Station, San Diego, California, Mariana Islands, Island of Sipan, and Marshal Islands on Eniwetok. He was discharged in Norman, Oklahoma in 1945.
He married Frances Marion Huling Dickson on March 14, 1943 in Blair, Oklahoma.
Myron and Frances came to Midland in 1949. He was employed with Plymouth Oil from 1949-1954. In 1954-1967 he was employed with Cameron Oil Company. Eventually he continued his career with Sunray-DX, Belco Petroleum, and Resource Investment as a consultant. He finished his career as an independent geologist.
Myron was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogist, West Texas Geological Society, Masonic Lodge of Midland, and elevated to the Grand Commandery of Texas.
First and foremost Myron was a Christian. He served the Lord at First Baptist Church of Midland, Texas, where he taught Bible classes for over 50 years. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1967. He volunteered at the Baptist Crisis Center in Midland for many years. He always had a heart for missions and telling others about his love for the Lord. He went on several mission trips to Yugoslavia, Brazil, and Mexico. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was very proud of his family. He was also an avid Midland High School supporter and enjoyed watching many football, basketball, and baseball games with friends. Win or lose, he was there.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Dickson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances. He is also survived by his children, Nancy Crawford and husband Rocky of Plano, Texas; Myra Atnipp and husband Mike of Midland, Texas; and Susie Brenneman and husband Bruce of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. His grandchildren Michael Crawford and wife Karen, Nicholas Crawford, Jacob Crawford and wife Alaina, Marc Atnipp and wife Amy, Phillip Atnipp, Stuart Atnipp and wife Kristen, Paul Brenneman and wife Rachael, and Stephen Brenneman and wife Mary. His great-grandchildren Tyler and Morgan Crawford, Channing and Ashton Atnipp, and Austin and Ryan Brenneman. He is survived by one brother, Ancel Dickson of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Ellis Funeral home on Thursday May 27, 2011, from 6:00pm-7:30pm
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church at 2:00pm Friday May 26, 2011. There will be a private family interment at a later date.
Pallbearers are to be Myron’s eight grandsons.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
