Noemí Carmen Sardá de Lewis, aged 75, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, in Midland, Texas. She was born on December 31, 1948, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Amelia Zanardini and Juan José Eusebio Sardá. After Noemí's father died in an accident when she was young, her mother moved to the United States, leaving Noemí in the care of her paternal grandparents, affectionately known as Yaya and Titi, in Argentina. In her youth, Noemí developed what would become lifelong friendships in Argentina. She loved planning socials, and the dances and festivities of her youth were among her most cherished memories.
After attending high school, Noemí worked for a party company making paper flowers for events. Around 1970, Noemí began corresponding with Arizona native Paul Lewis, who had learned Spanish as a missionary in Central America. The two courted through letters for two years before marrying in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on November 17, 1972. Noemí and Paul first settled in Holbrook, Arizona, where they welcomed their firstborn children, twins Andy and Wendy, in 1973. Their daughter Cossette was born in 1975 while the family briefly lived in Argentina, and their son Sam was born in 1976 after they had relocated to Midland, Texas. Their youngest child, daughter Ariana, was born in 1982.
While Paul worked as a geologist, Noemí was a dedicated homemaker and mother. She was an excellent cook, and many of her Argentine specialties became cherished family recipes. She was also a talented cake decorator, seamstress, quilter, painter, and crafter. Noemí loved cultivating roses, although her favorite flowers were hydrangeas. She enjoyed music by ABBA, all things Disney, and Japanese films produced by Studio Ghibli.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Noemí served in various volunteer capacities, with her favorites being with the Relief Society, a women's organization dedicated to fellowship and service. Noemí was a devoted friend who maintained lifelong relationships with friends from Argentina, Arizona, and Midland. She was thrilled to connect with family and friends on occasional travels. She was also a doting grandmother or "Nonna" to her grandchildren.
Noemí was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, Paul. She is survived by her five children, two daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, thirteen grandchildren and the wives of two of her grandsons: Andy (Rynell) Lewis, their four children and daughter-in-law of Orem, Utah; Wendy (David) Faught, their five children and daughter-in-law of San Angelo, Texas; Cossette (Mike) Stuy and their two children of Cedar Hills, Utah; Sam (Cindy) Lewis and their two children of Melissa, Texas; and Ariana Lewis of Midland, Texas. Additionally, Noemí is survived by two brothers and one sister-in-law: Daniel (Estela) Sardá of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Steve Herrera of La Madera, New Mexico.
A graveside service will be held at the Holbrook Cemetery in Holbrook, Arizona, at a later date.
