

Norma was born in Clinton, Oklahoma on February 20, 1933 to Wilson and Arvill Schwab Gibson. She graduated from Chillicothe High School and continued her education at McMurry College.
Norma was married to Olney Thurman on September 20, 1952. They were married 40 years.
After Olney’s death, she was married to A.C Norrell on July 28, 2005 and they have been married for twelve years.
Norma worked as a Special Collections Librarian for MCPL for 20 years and then part time at Haley Library for six years. After retiring, Norma volunteered at Trinity School in the early 1990s and more recently at Crescent Park Baptist Church.
She enjoyed genealogy, a good game of Scrabble and singing in the church choir. She and A.C. were active at Crescent Park Baptist Church until a recent illness kept her homebound.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Olney Thurman and grandson, John Schuessler.
She is survived by her husband, A.C. Norrell; daughters, Susan Friday (David), Sarah Schuessler and Celia Thurman; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four nieces; one nephew and brothers, Rex Gibson and Hugh Gibson (Sondra).
Viewing will be held at Ellis Funeral Home on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at Crescent Park Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at with Dale Blake officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Crescent Park Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas, to Trinity School or St. Ann’s Catholic Church, both of Midland, Texas.
The Family of Norma Thurman wishes to thank Crescent Park members and neighbors for their generosity of heart in Norma’s final days.
