Raymond K. Horton

Ray was born on May 28, 1928, in Wayne County, TN, to Zack and Mamie Horton. A disabled U.S. Veteran, he proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp in Amarillo, TX, during and after World War II, receiving a World War II Victory Medal.

Ray met, loved, and married his beloved wife, Mary Louise Lowrance on November 26, 1948. They started a family and relocated to Andrews, TX, in 1956, later moving to Midland in 1966, where Ray lived until his death.

A hard-working entrepreneur, Ray started and operated numerous and varied successful ventures, including businesses in oil and gas, transportation, real estate, hospitals, and international trading. Though from very humble beginnings, Ray’s ingenuity, creativity, and tenacity rewarded him and others with many business successes and lifetime friends.

Ray is survived by his wife Mary Louise Horton of the home; sister Nell Hawkins of TN; four daughters and their husbands Raylene and Jerry Snow of Canton, TX, Delena and David Singleton of Ft Worth, TX, Lisa and Lee Barksdale of Ft Worth, TX, and Kayla and Terry Schroeder of North Richland Hills, TX; son and daughter-in-law Garon and Kristi Horton of Rockwall, TX; thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many more family members and friends.

Family visitation will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy, Midland, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013, at Golf Course Church of Christ, 3500 W. Golf Course Rd, Midland, TX, with elder Eddie Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park of Midland.
