In August of 1992 he began working for ESI Supply, Inc where he was a Warehouse Manager and owned interest in the company. He loved his job as much as the customers he interacted with becoming lifelong friends with many including his associate and long time friend of 35+ years Charlie Oxford.
Before leaving for Vietnam, he met his high school sweetheart, Blanca Garcia while attending Midland High School vowing on their first date he would marry her. True to his word, they married in May of 1970 where they shared 42 years together and had two children, Robert S. Gonzales and Amie Carlisle. The only things he loved more than his wife, kids, and grandkids were NASCAR and his dogs Pepper, Bullet and Tracer. He loved taking trips with his closest friend Paul Renz to Phoenix and Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas.
