

Ruben was born in Big Spring, Texas on August 28, 1931. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1951. He married Vera Sue Simmons on October 27, 1950. They were married for 65 years.
Ruben worked as a mechanic at Shroyer Motors, Pollard Chevrolet, Sid Richardson Carbon Company and Web AFB before retiring from the USPS. Ruben was an Elder in the Old School Primitive Baptist Church.
Ruben is preceded in death by his father and mother, Dewey and Christine Covington and his sisters, Joyce Burton and Earnestine Eastham.
Ruben is survived by his wife, Vera Sue Covington; sons, Mike Covington and his wife Carrie and Steve Covington; one brother, Woody Covington and his wife Shirley Covington. He is also survived by his grandson John Covington and wife Dee Covington; granddaughters, Anna Cottrell and husband Chad Cottrell, Leah Covington, Katy Mendoza and husband SSG Armando Ivan Mendoza; grandson Camron DeHart; great grandchildren, Ryan Cottrell and fiancé Michael Dublin, Taylor Pulliam, Jacob Cottrell, Andrew Covington, Gavin Finzel, Hayden Pulliam, Reese Lewis, Corbon Mendoza, Audrey Mendoza, Emily Covington and John Covington, Jr.; great great granddaughter Harper Leigh Dublin and special niece Jennifer Barros and sons Jacob, Ryan, Colby and Bryce.
Visitation will be held at Ellis Funeral Home on Monday, February 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park on Tuesday, February 2 at 11:00 a.m.
Pall bearers will be Mark Simmons, Chad Cottrell, John Covington, Jacob Keith, Andrew Covington, Hayden Pulliam, Gavin Finzel, Reese Lewis and Corbon Mendoza.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Senior Care Center, especially Sammy and Tish.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Parkinson’s Research in Ruben’s name.
