
Shirley Ann Madden of Midland, Texas was born on May 11, 1932 in Clay Center, Kansas to Andrew and Gladys Bergstrom, and passed peacefully at Midland Memorial Hospital on April 19, 2017 at the age of 84.
Shirley grew up in Clay Center and graduated Salutatorian of her high school. Upon graduation, she moved to Abilene to start her career as a secretary in the oil business. In 1951, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas to work for the McElroy Ranch Co. In that same year, she met and married her life-long love, Lloyd W. Madden. They relocated permanently to Midland, Texas in 1954. Shirley was a very active part of the community while raising her four children.
An avid bridge player, Shirley had many friends that she enjoyed sharing her love of the game with. She had a passion for gardening, golf and watching football!
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Blanche Nyberg, her brother Leonard Bergstrom, and her husband Lloyd W. Madden. Survivors include her sister Andree Dodson of Red Wing, MN and four children, sons, Steven D. (Paula) Madden of Frisco, Texas, and Kim A. (Darleen) Madden of Bedford, Texas, and daughters Deborah K. (Robert) Barker of Midland, Texas, and Victoria A. (John) Akos of Highland Village, Texas. There are nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
A private family memorial will be held in her honor.
The family has requested donations to be made to Star Hospice at 620 N Grant Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761, to First United Methodist Church of Midland at 300 N. Main St., Midland, Texas 79701, or a charity of choice.
