

He was born July 28, 1923, in the same hospital, to Tom and Lula Barton. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1941, and enrolled at Texas A&M the same year. Following the outbreak of WWII, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
On V-J Day August 15, 1945, he came home on leave and married his childhood sweetheart, Earlene Young, daughter of Jess and Mittie Lee Young. The couple made their first home in Oceanside, CA, near Camp Pendleton, CA. After retiring from active service, T.J. remained in the USMCR until he left the Reserves in the mid 1960’s.
He attended Texas A&M, Duke University and graduated from TCU in 1956, with a degree in Geology. He joined Gulf Oil Co. and was area geologist for the Co. until 1976, in Crane, TX. Upon leaving Gulf, he moved to Midland and opened his office as a consultant until his retirement and moving to Miles in 1993. He always listed his top priorities as God, family, country, and Geology.
T.J. was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Louise Jones, and brother Tom, Jr. and grandson Evan Barton.
Survivors are his wife, “Skip”, and their three sons, Jeff and his wife Nancy, of McKinney, Len and his wife Nanette, of Ft. Worth, Jack of Midland; grandchildren, “Holly” of Texas, Sarah Steiner of New Jersey, Kaitlyn and Kacey Barton of Midland, and Whitney of Ft. Worth; great grandchildren, Emily Steiner and Julian Steiner of New Jersey.
We were blessed to have you in our lives J.J. and will miss you very much.
