Tommy Lee Thompson entered his heavenly home December 21, 2025. Tommy was born in Sonora, Texas on September 30, 1951 to JL “Red” and Pearl Thompson. Tommy was the oldest of Red and Pearl’s four children and took his job of big brother to heart. The Thompson‘s moved to Midland in 1963 and Tommy resided here the rest of his life. He graduated from Midland High School in 1969 and enlisted in the Army in 1970, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1973. He became a helicopter crew chief while in the Army and was stationed in South Korea and Fort Carson.
In 1978, Tommy was set up on a blind date with Cindy. Tommy realized Cindy and her son Doug were two people he did not want to live without. Tommy and Cindy were married on October 11, 1980. From the very beginning, Tommy considered Doug his son. Tommy and Cindy welcomed their daughter, Jessica, in 1983.
Upon his return from the Army, Tommy was employed at Jordan‘s Garage, a job he had held in high school. He then went to work for Exxon in Monahans before partnering in Clar-Don Products, which later became Quikrete of West Texas. Tommy sold his part in Quikrete, retiring in 2005. His years at Quikrete were spent with friends and coworkers who became family.
Tommy was a selfless and devoted husband for 45 years and always made sure Cindy and his children were provided for. Tommy loved spending time outdoors; fishing, hunting and later on trying to perfect his golf game. He loved sharing the time spent outdoors with Doug and Jessica, instilling their lifelong love for these hobbies. During Jessica’s childhood, softball became a way of life. Tommy was a dedicated dad, coach, mentor and supporter of Jessica and her teammates; spending many years and miles traveling to games and tournaments. Through these hobbies, he developed many lifelong friendships.
Tommy was an incredibly kind father-in-law to Heather (Doug) and Jase (Jessica), bringing many laughs with his dry sense of humor and blunt comments. One of Tommy’s proudest moments in life happened when he became Baw to his grandchildren; Sutton, Cash and Sidney. He and Nan(Cindy) loved spending time at the lake with their grandchildren. Baw loved being a grandfather and told Nan it was the greatest job he had ever had. He was Uncle Tommy to many, and loved and was loved by each. He again shared his love of fishing with his nieces and nephews, taking many on fishing trips to the lake. He was never too busy to play catch, basketball, checkers, Sorry, or whatever the game was at the moment.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Cindy, children Doug (Heather) of Casper, Wyoming, and Jessica (Jase)Harkins of Sanderson, Texas; grandchildren, Sutton Harkins, Cash Stewart, and Sidney Harkins; sisters, Jeanette Pennington and Connie Scharbauer; brother, Hal Thompson; sister-in-law, Dana Atwater; brothers-in-law, Rocky Frazier(Amanda) and David Prater; numerous nieces and nephews, many dear friends, and his beloved beagle, Annie.
Tommy was saved and a believer in Christ. He is having the most glorious reunion in Heaven with those who proceeded him in death; his parents, Red and Pearl Thompson; mother-in-law, Ann Frazier; father-in-law, Roy Frazier; brothers-in-law, John Pennington and Bruce Frazier and sister-in-law, Sandra Prater.
