The Lord called Travis Glynn (Hoppy) Hopson home to Heaven on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 to be with Him. Glynn was born February 2, 1934, the only child to Travis Hopson and Bonnie Dingler Hopson, in New York, Texas (Henderson County). He met Patsy Breedlove while attending Athens High School. They were married on September 4, 1953. God blessed their marriage of 59 years, giving them two beautiful daughters, Marsha Granaye (Gaye) Hopson Short and Judy Glynn Hopson Whitworth. Glynn retired from Harbison-Fischer Mfg. Company in 1996 after 37 dedicated years of service as a Sales Representative, having worked with them in Ft. Worth, TX; Casper, WY; Denver, CO; and finally, Midland, TX. Glynn loved his family, Bellview Baptist Church and his church family greatly. He served as Deacon and after retirement, spent many hours working in the church flower beds, cooking on the grill, and praising the Lord. He loved to tease and got a kick out of telling people that he was born in New York. After receiving the inevitable response, “You don’t talk like you’re from New York”, he would say with a chuckle that he had failed to tell them it was New York, TX (a small community outside of Athens, TX). Glynn was also known as “Hoppy” to his co-workers and close friends, while his grandchildren preferred to call him “Pop” or “Poppy”. He answered to them all. Glynn was preceded in death by his father and mother. Survivors include his wife, Pat and daughters, Gaye and her husband, Lyle of Midland, TX; and Judy and her husband, Worth of Tahoka, TX. Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren: Lyle Short Jr. and wife, Casey of Greenwood, TX; Kasha Short Taylor of Midland, TX; Kristin Short Dutchover, and husband, Andrew of Midland, TX; Meggan Whitworth DeVaughn and husband, Donte’ of Lewisville, TX; and Jeffrey Whitworth and wife, Julie of Montoursville, PA; as well as seven great-grandchildren: Dustin Short, Kabryn Short, Nickolas Dutchover, Kaleah Short, Bradlee Dutchover, Kaiden Taylor, and Addison Whitworth. Family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m., Sunday September 16, 2012. The funeral service will be held at Bellview Baptist Church at 10:00a.m., Monday, September 17, 2012 with Reverend Myron Unruh officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home of Midland. Condolences may be offered at: www.ellisfunerals.com.
