Alan McDowell, Sr., 93, passed away at the Crossings at Ironbridge in Chesterfield County on February 5, 2021. He was born on March 14, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama and was the 5th of 7 children of Mary Meade and Bishop William G. McDowell.
After graduating from Auburn University with a Bachelor's degree in engineering, he went to work for Allis Chalmers (Siemens Allis) where he retired as an accounts manager after 40 years of service.
Alan loved spending time with family, discussing family history, gunsmithing, gardening, and playing the piano, organ and keyboard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Burke L McDowell; parents, Bishop William G and Mary Meade McDowell; brothers, William, Robert, Richard and John McDowell.
He is survived by his children, Mary (Betsy) Glynn (Tim), Margaret (Maggie) Church, Alan Jr. (Shannon); grandchildren, Heather Andre (Jeff), David Church, Kylene and Erin McDowell; and great granddaughter, Madelyn Andre.
