Ann Foster Bowden, 88, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Glyde F. Foster and Julia Little Foster along with her two sisters Judy Brown and Nell Young, and her brother, Glyde Franklin Foster, Jr. Ann was also preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Maurice Wright Bowden in 2016. Ann is survived by her step-daughter Sharon Bowden Harrison and her husband Steve; and her grandchildren Megan and Zachary Evans along with Virginia and Rachel Harrison. She also leaves behind her dear friend and sister-in-law Betty Foster, nephew Walter Young (Becky), and nieces Julie Young, Neale Foster, Anne Brown Bare (Mark), Jill Foster (Rich), Lisbeth Poulos (Peter), along with numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews, who all fondly remember her as ‘Ann Jimmy’. She will also be missed by her husband’s family who loved her and thank her for her dedication to Maurice. Born Ann James Foster in Cumberland County, Virginia she graduated from Longwood College with a degree in teaching and went on to complete her Masters in Education from the University of Virginia. She spent the majority of her long teaching career at Manchester High School in Chesterfield County, Virginia as an English teacher and served many years as the head of the Department until her retirement in 1993. After her retirement she continued to dedicate her time teaching children to read as reading was one of her great passions. She and Maurice also enjoyed visiting family in North Carolina, watching Washington Football and of course keeping up with their grandkids whom they cherished and loved very much. Services will be held Saturday, July 31st at 11am at Woody’s Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Virginia. There will be a reception to receive family and friends immediately following the service. A private interment will be held for family at a later time in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate your time and/or resources to a local school or charity.
