

Barbara Wetzel Del Monte Kuldell, age 80, of Henrico, Virginia passed away after a short illness on July 3. She was born in Richmond, VA, on February 16, 1943, and was soon welcomed by Bill and Florence Wetzel as their first child. Barbara was raised in Arlington, VA, and graduated from Wakefield High School. During high school, she met Frank DelMonte whom she married and had two sons, Jef and Brent.
For many years, Barbara worked for Dr. Howard Champion, at Critical Care Associates in Washington, DC, who she continued to admire throughout her life. In 1984, she married Bob Kuldell. Barbara and Bob built a family, raising all of their boys together. Barbara and Bob spent many years in Martinsburg, WV, a wonderful community to share their lives.
In 2021, Barbara moved to Our Lady Of Hope in Henrico, VA, where she developed many wonderful relationships including meeting her special friend, Bob Norfleet. Barbara and Bob immediately bonded over playing Rummikub, but their relationship flourished while sharing stories of their long lives and mutual interests.
Barbara was an avid quilter, a quick friend to everyone she met, and had an extensive array of elephant collectibles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her birth-mother Mary Ann Bush, and her second husband Bob Kuldell. She is survived by her sons Jef DelMonte (Jessica), and Brent DelMonte (Aiken Hackett), sister Brenda Estes (Gary), nephews Adam and Jesse, stepsons Mark Kuldell (Janet), Tony Kuldell, and Gary Kuldell, grandchildren Veronica and Matthew DelMonte, Steven, Sarah, and Kristin Kuldell, and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to her family, she is survived by dozens of close friends including her angel caregiver, Katty Gilbert, who tirelessly helped her in her final months.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Woody's Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel followed by interment at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Goochland. The family will host a reception at Discovery Village, West End at 2 p.m. following the graveside service.
