PELLUM, Benjamin C., 31, of Chesterfield, Va., passed away March 17, 2014, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Matze Jr. (Debbie) of Chesterfield and Frank C. Pellum Jr. of Walterboro, S.C.; four sisters, Holly Pellum, Melissa Ratledge, Angela Coffey (Jason), and Jessica Pellum; three nephews, many aunts, uncles and cousins; his special friends, Marshall and Darcy Staples, Joe Butler, Jon Sutliff, Matt Keohane, Lorren Williams, Liz Evans, friends and employees of Chili's in Chattanooga Plaza; and a special friend of the family, Robert Henderson. Ben was a member of the BSA Troop #835. He was a 2000 graduate of Manchester High School and a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp. with two deployments to Iraq.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 20 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Huguenot Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., and where a celebration of his life will be held at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (his favorite), VCU/Massey Cancer Center or Hospice of Virginia.
