Bruce David McNeill, 64, of North Chesterfield, went to be with his Lord, suddenly, September 19, 2016. He was preceded in death by parents Kenneth J. McNeill and Esther E. McNeill. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Beth (Williams) McNeill; sons, Christopher and Matthew, both of Richmond; daughter, Erin McNeill Durand, and son-in-law Christopher Durand of Hope Mills, NC; and, brother, John W. McNeill of Rochester, NY.
Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Bruce was a 1975 graduate of the University of Rochester. That same year, Bruce and Beth met at West Avenue United Methodist Church when she was appointed as choir director. Their interest in music (Beth, professionally) and love of singing was a powerful element they shared over the years. In recent times they sang together in the choir at Ginter Park UMC and with the choir at Mt. Pisgah UMC (Midlothian).
The McNeill family moved to Warrenton, VA in 1992, and then to Richmond in 1995. Bruce was first employed by the Federal Reserve Bank, and later by Chesterfield County Public Schools as a micro-computer analyst.
Bruce's passion in life was always his children. He never missed a sports event (baseball; field hockey) or a concert (band; chorus) that his children participated in. He was extremely technical minded and an avid reader. Bruce enjoyed the study of Virginia's history and traveled to many areas of historical significance. Despite his detailed and scientific nature, he never failed to completely surprise family and friends with unexpected barbs of humor. He will leave a large void in our lives.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, with service immediately following, at Mt. Pisgah UMC in Midlothian, Saturday, September 24, 2016.
