On April 13th, 1938 in Jamaica WI the Lord blessed the late Una Edwards and Enos Reid with a beautiful baby girl named Cynthia Elodia Reid. Cynthia was a rambunctious child, the eldest of eleven children. She attended Primary school at Porus Elementary with secondary education at Mount St. Joseph school of nursing in Mandeville. She obtained her license as a registered nurse at Kingston Public Hospital and later received certifications in midwifery and home health nursing in England and Scotland respectively. A sponsorship to Mount Sinai Hospital allowed Cynthia to emigrate to the states where she grew and excelled in her nursing career. Her time, dedication, and perseverance eventually led her to St John's Episcopal Home for the aged and blind where she served as Director of Nursing. Cynthia was born with a nurturing spirit.
Cynthia gave birth to her son Charles in 1969 and shortly thereafter met and married James Reid. Their union took place at St Phillips Episcopal Church in Brooklyn on September 26th 1970. They welcomed their daughter Charlene in 1975. Cynthia was raised in the church and did make a profession of faith declaring the Lord Jusus Christ as her personal savior in the 1980’s. She was a loving mother that grew her children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Cynthia's love and dedication to her family was unmatched. This was evident in the many family get-togethers that took place mostly in her home. To her family, togetherness and interaction was key for the family unit.
Affectionately known as Phebe, her zest for life was evident in her favorite pastime: Traveling. She ventured to many destinations such as Africa, England, Scotland, Hawaii, Bermuda and anywhere her heart took her. She truly was a free spirit.
In 1998 Cynthia relocated to Virginia. In her retirement she loved to attend church where she was a part of the choir. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and travel to Jamaica with her brothers. Cynthia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Tyrell Howard Jr and Sean Tyler Howard imparting her words of wisdom and watching them grow from boys to men.
