Danny Calvin Blackburn, age 70, of North Chesterfield, Virginia passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025. The community lost a dedicated protector, a loyal friend, and a kind soul with the passing of Danny and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering dedication to his community.
Danny dedicated his life to protecting and serving others. He spent 15 years as a law enforcement officer for the Chesterfield County Police Department. He was proud to have been a part of the original Crash Team, which he assisted in forming, around 1980, specializing in accident investigations and helping to bring justice and closure to countless families. Danny also spent time serving on the traffic unit. He had a passion for traffic safety and was co-founder of his business, Accident Reconstruction Specialist. In following years, he worked at Randolph-Macon College. Following his law enforcement career, Danny went to work for the Chesterfield Sheriff's Department as a Criminal Information Specialist, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and citizens alike. With a steadfast commitment to justice and a heart full of compassion, he made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a devoted son, being the sole caregiver 24/7 for several years for his mother, who had Alzheimer's. He was a devoted partner to Cheryl, embraced being a father to Allison, and was overjoyed being a loving grandfather to his grandson, Kye.
Danny never retired and remained a pillar of his community, always ready with a helping hand, a warm smile, or a story to share. He was a Charter member and served as a trustee for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 47, ensuring that those who wore the badge were supported and honored. He was also an active member of the Chesterfield County Retired Police Officers Association, where he built lasting friendships and remained a guiding presence among his fellow officers. He never forgot those who mentored and contributed to his development along his career path. He never met a stranger, and his friendships spanned generations. Whether offering guidance to young officers, lending an ear to those in need, or simply sharing a cup of coffee with friends, his presence was a source of comfort and strength.
Beyond his career, Danny had a passion for traveling, always eager to explore new places and experience the world beyond his hometown. One of his greatest interests was trains, going to train shows, taking photos of trains, and going for train rides. He also had a deep love for classic cars, attending car shows, or simply enjoying a good drive with friends. He was especially interested and proud of his Scottish lineage. These interests brought him joy and connected him with friends who shared his enthusiasm.
He is survived by his partner of 50 years, Cheryl Bossieux; daughter, Allison Mascilak, and grandson, Kye, and other family members, as well as countless friends and colleagues who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Woody Funeral Home-Huguenot, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, VA 23113. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Fallen Officer Foundation or the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund in his honor.
