Mrs. Harris graduated from Longwood University with a degree in English and Public Speaking, and received an Outstanding Alumna Award. While at Longwood, Diane became a member of Pi Delta Epsilon, the honorary journalism society. After graduating from Longwood in three years, she began teaching at George Wythe High School in Richmond, and later taught at Hermitage High School in Henrico County. For three years, Diane was a legal assistant with Hunton and Williams Law Firm in Richmond. Returning to teaching, Diane taught English at Manchester High School in Chesterfield County for 23 years, and concurrently coached Forensics for 12 years. She was instrumental in beginning the Manchester High School Retiree lunch group which expanded into a support group for the high school, contributing to various programs. Diane was an avid bridge player with ladies whom she had known for almost forty years. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and visited all but six; eventually traveling to England, Scotland, and Wales. Socializing with friends, playing bridge, reading, and shopping filled much of her spare time before Covid. During and after the pandemic, Diane enjoyed making greeting cards. Most of all, Diane relished spending time with her family whom she treasured. Caden, her youngest grandson, was a devoted caregiver to Diane in her final years.
