Doris Kirks Morris, 78, passed away peacefully, in the presence of her family in Midlothian, VA on January 14, 2026. She was born on February 17, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia. Her family moved to Alexandria when she was two and she graduated from Groveton High school.
Doris was the beloved wife of Ronald Lynn Morris, with whom she shared 56 devoted years of marriage. Their partnership began at Lynchburg College, where Doris graduated in 1969 with a degree in Political Science. While at Lynchburg, she was a campus leader and actively involved in student government, including serving as Vice President. She was named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and she even found time to participate in the synchronized swim club. It was at Lynchburg College that she and the love of her life, Ron, began their journey together.
She was preceded in death by her parents Doris Mitchell Kirks and John Ross Kirks both of Alexandria, Virginia.
Doris is survived by her loving husband Ron; her children Tiffany Morris Metacarpa (Justin Metacarpa) and Mitchell Kirks Morris; and her cherished grandchildren, Parker Metacarpa, Hailey Metacarpa, and Genevieve Morris, who brought her endless joy and pride.
Early in her career, Doris worked as a Special Education Teacher, a role that reflected her deep compassion and commitment to helping others. She later chose to devote herself fully to caring for her family, a calling she fulfilled with extraordinary dedication, grace, and love.
Throughout her life, Doris was an avid gardener and a committed volunteer generously giving her time and talent to numerous organizations. She volunteered in many community organizations over the years including the Assistance League of Charlotte. After moving to Midlothian, she served as the President of the Salisbury Garden Club and President of the Salisbury Country Club Woman's Club. During her time in the garden club, she was invited to be an exhibitor at the VMFA for Fine Arts and Flowers and her home which boasted beautiful gardens, was featured on an area garden tour. Additionally, she was a devoted public-school volunteer, and during her children's years could often be found in school libraries, quietly and faithfully supporting students and teachers alike.
Above all else, Doris loved her family and friends fiercely. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering loyalty left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Doris fought a courageous and valiant battle with Lewy Body Dementia, facing her illness with remarkable resilience. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Spring Arbor Memory Care and Crater Community Hospice for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion they provided during the final years of her life.
Doris will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her generosity of spirit, her devotion to family, and the many lives she touched through service and love.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31 at 11am at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, VA. A visitation will take place from 10-11am preceding the memorial service.
