

MCMULLEN, Dorothy Theresa McAvoy, from Midlothian, Va., surrounded by her loving family, peacefully passed away on February 19, 2017, just shy of her 90th birthday. She was born March 3, 1927 in Fort Lee, N.J., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Joseph McAvoy. She was predeceased by her parents; adored husband, and son, Douglas John McMullen, and Douglas John McMullen II. She previously lived in Battle Creek, Mich., Franklin Lakes, N.J. and Longboat Key, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter, Dona McMullen Schaaf and her husband, F. Behle Schaaf; grandchildren, Kristan Schaaf
McGehee and her husband, Philip Gregory McGehee, Christopher Behle Schaaf and his wife, Amy Elizabeth Schaaf. She was the proud great-grandmother of Landon, Brody and Vivi Schaaf, and Behle and Lucy McGehee. She is also survived by her beloved sister Marie McAvoy Amrhein.
Dottie was a gifted artist who previously worked at Terrytoons cartoons as the artistic designer for many of the caricatures portrayed in Heckle and Jeckle, Mighty Mouse and others. She was a longtime member of Salisbury Country Club in Midlothian, Va. and the Longboat Key Club in Longboat Key, Fla. Her beauty and love for her family will be greatly missed. We want to thank the amazing staff at Spring Arbor of Salisbury for their unconditional love and kindness.
Her funeral service will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Drive, North Chesterfield, Va. 23235 at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017, with interment to follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
