He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Sandra Scherrer and his parents Delmar and Jean Scherrer.
He is survived by his daughter Kristie Scherrer Haines (Dave) and son Douglas Clarke Scherrer (Ann) and his only grandchild Katie Scherrer. As well as his beloved sister Matalie Whittaker (John) and numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
He was born in Ohio and spent many years in Colorado and lived his last 4 years in Virginia. His wife JoAnn was the love of his life, and they shared 60 years as husband and wife after meeting at Ohio University.
Doug was an avid bridge player, golfer and traveler. He worked most of his career at Sherwin Williams and made many lifelong friends. His favorite stories were about flying helicopters for 3 years in the Army.
There will be a small service in Cleveland, OH at an undetermined date later this year.
The family would like to thank all his friends and staff at Sunrise Bon Air for making his last 4 years so happy.
