FLORENCE LEWIS ROWAN, age 96, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family at home in Midlothian, Virginia on Thursday, November 1, 2018. She was born in Taylors Valley, Virginia on June 23, 1922. Some of her many talents include cross-stitch, painting pottery, sewing and cooking.
She was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren in Taylors Valley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie King Rowan; her father, Solomon E. Lewis and her mother, Lavina Gentry Lewis; ten siblings, Arthur Lewis, Verna Lewis, Ora Hoke, Paul Lewis, Ruth Warden, Effie Price, Mildred Blevins, James Lewis, Bill Lewis, and Jack Lewis. She is survived by two children, Brenda (Kenny) Robertson of Midlothian, Virginia and Cathie (Jerry) Robinson of Kingsport, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Linsey (Jeremy) Allenbaugh, Jennifer and Jeffrey; seven great-grandchildren, Abigail, Ashton, and Jackson Allenbaugh, Joshua, Alexis, Madison, and Amelia; one great-great grandchild, Jaxton; one sibling, Rodger Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren in Taylors Valley with Mrs. Martha Roudebush, minister officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Jackson-Lewis Cemetery in Taylors Valley. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday day prior to the funeral service at the church.
