Age 92
Jean Gundy passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2nd after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Elvin L. Gundy, her son, Steven R. Gundy, and eight of her siblings.
Born in Sterling, Iowa on July 18, 1923, she was one of 12 children. She raised her three children in Omaha, Nebraska before retiring from Omaha Public Schools to move to Rogers, Arkansas with her husband in 1977. In 1994, Jean and Elvin moved to Richmond, Virginia to be closer to their grandchildren.
Jean is also survived by her three sisters, Jadie Hoffman, Janet Silvernail, Ruth Slocum – all in the Denver, Colorado area, and one brother, Jay Johnston from California. Jean is survived by her son Gary Gundy (Kim) and daughter Judy (John Dwyer); five grandchildren; Yvette Melendez of Chicago, Sarah Gundy (Ronan Hurley) of Galway, Ireland, Jay Gundy (Becky) of Garden City, Kansas, Kelsey Dwyer and Kellan Dwyer, of Richmond, Virginia; and five great grandchildren; Kayla Gundy, Victor Melendez, Graham and Adam Hurley, and Pacey Gundy.
A private service will be held followed by burial in Omaha, Nebraska.
