

SHAW, Frances Marie Antonen, born March 26, 1920 in Lake Norden, South Dakota to Peter and Fannie Antonen, passed away peacefully March 20, 2016, six days shy of her 96th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, husband, Leslie LaVerne Shaw; and son-in-law Col. (Ret) John Welch. She is survived by three children, Rosalie Sziarto of Jacksonville, Fla., James Shaw of Richmond and Beverly Welch of Midlothian; three grandchildren, Kristin Sziarto (Ryan Holifield) of Milwaukee, Wis., Lynne Matson (Stephen) of Jacksonville, Fla. and John Welch Jr. (Amyi) of Charleston, S.C. She is also survived by six great-grandsons, Sebastin and Maxwell Holifield and Caden, Christian, Davis and Cooper Matson. After finishing school, she moved to New York and then Chicago, where she met her future husband, Les. They married two weeks after Pearl Harbor and after the war, they settled in Chicago, then transferred to Lousiville and finally Richmond, where they remained. She was proud to be one of the original members of the Huguenot Republican Women's Club and honored to be a delegate to the National Federation of Republican Women in D.C. Her life centered around her family and she was undoubtably the best pie baker ever! Besides loving to read, travel and working crossword puzzels, she enjoyed over 50 years of golf and bridge with her friends at Willow Oaks until moving to Brandermill Woods. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian.
