

After a long and valiant fight, Garland H. Sharp III, age 61, passed away on July 12, 2015 at VCU Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father, Garland Sharp, Jr., his mother, Shirley Long Sharp, his brother, Christopher Sharp, his grandmother, Julia Sharp, and his grandfather, Garland Sharp. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Mary Sharp, his sons, Kevin and Daniel Sharp, his stepmother, Betty Sharp, his sister, Carol Sharp, his brother, David Sharp, and his sister Ann Sharp Robertson and her husband, Eric Robertson. He leaves behind his in-laws, Mary Jane and Andrew Munch, various sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and his cousins.
He is a graduate of VCU and a long-time employee of the State Corporation Commission. He was an ardent VCU Rams basketball fan and a Hokies football fan. He coached Little League baseball and soccer and enjoyed going to his son’s travel soccer, volleyball games, and track meets. He was the quartermaster for Boy Scout Troop 1891 for many years and helped his sons on their journey to Eagle Scout. After his family, his strongest passion was fishing. He was an expert fresh and saltwater fisherman who spent countless hours fishing the James River and the ocean at Emerald Isle, North Carolina, his favorite vacation spot.
The family thanks the many doctors, nurses, and health care professionals who provided for his care at VCU Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. Visitation at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, VA 23113 on Friday, July 17th from 2 – 4 p.m. & from 6 – 8 p.m. with memorial service at 2pm, on Saturday, July 18th, at the funeral home. Interment at a later date at Hollywood Cemetery.
