Gene Evan Lane Sr.

Gene Evan Lane Sr., age 90, of Chester, Va., passed away on January 21, 2023 with his family by his side. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean conflict. Gene retired approximately 32 years ago from a career at C&P Telephone, then AT&T, then Bell Atlantic, and ultimately Verizon, spending 42 years with the combined companies. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and spending time with his entire family on beach vacations. Gene loved the water and was a true waterman. He spent many years on the Chesapeake Bay and loved fishing for rockfish and bluefish during his retirement years. One of his favorite activities was cooking and eating steamed crabs with his kids, grandkids, and friends at his home on Gwynn's Island. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jane; three children, Cindy Hughes, Skip Lane (Anne), and Cheryl Corser; five grandchildren, Samantha Boswell (Justin), Allison Bower (Hunter), Jennifer Hymel (Avery), Amanda Lane, and James Lane; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on February 25, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian Va. Visitation at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to make a donation to the hospice organization of your choice.
