Isabella S. "Isobel" Kelly, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on May 10, 2025. Born on October 6, 1937, in Glasgow, Scotland, Isobel came to the United States at the age of 19. It was here that she met the love of her life, Thomas "Jack" Kelly, and they shared a deeply loving marriage of 53 years.
Isobel lived in Syracuse, NY, where she worked for Provident Mutual, the Syracuse City School District, and National Grange Insurance Company. She volunteered with the PTA and Girl Scouts, and was a member of the Daughters of Scotia, Lady Douglas Lodge. After retiring, she and Jack spent several years in Florida, before settling in Richmond, Virginia, where she enjoyed being a member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church Silver Streaks Group.
Isobel was cherished by many, both in the US and abroad. She found joy in staying connected with loved ones through social media and was known for her generosity and loving nature. Her love language was gift-giving, always finding "just a wee thing" for those she cared about. A true lover of beauty, she had a sharp eye for fashion and home décor. She loved following professional tennis; that brought her much joy.
Predeceased by her husband Jack, their angel son Mark Alexander, her parents Mary B. Wiseman and Alexander Anderson, and her sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Bernard Anklin, Isobel leaves behind a loving family. She is survived by her daughters Kim (Patrick) Schmidt and Denise (Michael) Powers; grandchildren Katrina (Jamie Beck) Ehmann, Kelly (Kris) Lincoln, Hannah (Tim Wetzel) Powers, Tess (Conor O'Donnell) Powers, and Emma (Dan Blair) Powers; and great-grandchildren Kamille, Gemma, and Nora Ehmann; Kallie and Kory Lincoln; Sam and Isla Wetzel; and Oliver Blair. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Arlene Kelly, cousins Joyce Bain and Doreen Fairbairn, and several nieces and nephews.
Isobel’s most recent days were brightened by the company and care of Dawn, Heidi, Michelle, and Rhoda, who supported her with delightful conversations and reminiscing, polished nails, dangly earrings, and perfectly matching outfits, all while listening to Engelbert Humperdinck and Tom Jones!
A celebration of Isobel’s life will be held at a future date. In her memory and in the spirit of her generous nature, donations can be made to Greater Richmond SCAN, Inc., 103 Grace Street, Richmond, VA 23219--an organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect in the Greater Richmond area.
