Bonbright, Commander John M., (SC USN Ret) John M. Bonbright Jr. of Moseley, VA, a proud veteran of the United States Navy, passed away May 11, 2024 at the age of 89. The son of John Miller Bonbright Sr. and Dorothy Vance Bonbright, John was born October 11, 1934 in Detroit, MI and grew up in Grosse Pointe, MI. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from Michigan State University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL. John was commissioned a Supply Corps officer in the US Navy in 1957 and served over 20 years. He valued the service highly and attained the rank of Commander. John served on several ships and ashore, including assignments in Seoul, Korea and Rome, Italy. Following his retirement from the Navy, John had careers in management and real estate in Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia. He loved working on his computer, (including developing websites), selling real estate, photography, stamp collecting, being a Michigan State Alumni and watching them play football and basketball, dachshunds and traveling. He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Bonbright, Sr. and his mother Dorothy Vance Bonbright. John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol A. Bonbright; children Linda Marie Lewis (Mike) of Richmond, VA, John Miller Bonbright III of Richmond, VA and Karen Vance McCaffery (Mike) of Mosely, VA; twin sister Cecilia Bonbright Hannes of Sheboygan, WI; grandchildren Alyson, Kevin, Cole, Hannah and Colin; and great grandchildren Olivia and Charlotte. A service honoring the life of John Bonbright will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 Woody Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel, where a visitation will begin at 10:30 am. A private Interment for family members will follow the service at Virginia Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The family would like to give thanks to Johnston Willis Hospital and Laurels at Willow Creek for their superb care and Brandywine Assisted Living for their comfort and care.
