Jose Cleotilde Gutierrez

Jose was born on June 6, 1929, in San Miguel del Alto Jalisco, Mexico, to Bartolo Gutierrez and Anastasia Soto. When Jose was a young child, his father passed away, and he was lovingly raised by his father’s brother, Lalo Gutierrez, whom Jose regarded as a father figure throughout his life.

He was one of four children, and all three of his siblings preceded him in death.

Jose was married to his beloved wife, Consuelo Gutierrez, for 57 years. Together they built a life centered on love, resilience, and family. He was the proud father of 17 children 12 from his first marriage and 5 from his second marriage and was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Family was the most important part of Jose’s life. He cherished time spent with his loved ones and took great pride in his large and close-knit family. Known affectionately as “Tilde,” Jose was well respected and deeply loved by all who met him. His kindness, wisdom, and strong sense of family left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Bartolo Gutierrez and Anastasia Soto; his uncle and father figure, Lalo Gutierrez; his siblings; and 2 of his children Maria Peña and Bartolo Gutierrez.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Consuelo Gutierrez; his remaining children; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who will forever cherish his memory and continue his legacy of family and love.

Jose lived his life guided by a deep Catholic faith, trusting in God’s grace and the promise of eternal life. He believed in the power of prayer, the importance of family, and living with humility and love. While his earthly journey has ended, his family finds comfort in knowing that Jose has been called home to heaven, where he now rests in eternal peace in the presence of the Lord. Reunited with those who have gone before him, he now shares in God’s promise of everlasting life.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woody Funeral Home, located at 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Virginia 23113.

A Mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Dr, Richmond, VA 23236. A Committal will follow immediately at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23238.

José Cleotilde Gutierrez Soto, de 96 años, residente de North Chesterfield, Virginia, falleció en paz en su hogar, rodeado del amor de su familia, el domingo 18 de enero de 2026.

José nació el 6 de junio de 1929 en San Miguel del Alto, Jalisco, México, hijo de Bartolo Gutierrez y Anastasia Soto. Cuando era niño, su padre falleció, y fue criado con amor por el hermano de su padre, Lalo Gutierrez, a quien José siempre consideró como su padre.

Fue uno de cuatro hermanos, y sus tres hermanos ya han fallecido.

José estuvo casado con su amada esposa, Consuelo Gutierrez, durante 57 años. Juntos construyeron una vida basada en el amor, la fortaleza y la familia. Fue el orgulloso padre de 17 hijos 12 de su primer matrimonio y 5 de su segundo matrimonio y también fue bendecido con muchos nietos, bisnietos y tataranietos.

La familia fue lo más importante en la vida de José. Disfrutaba profundamente pasar tiempo con sus seres queridos y se sentía muy orgulloso de su gran familia. Conocido cariñosamente como “Tilde,” José fue una persona muy respetada y querida por todos los que lo conocieron. Su bondad, sabiduría y fuertes valores familiares dejaron una huella imborrable en quienes tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo.

José fue precedido en la muerte por sus padres, Bartolo Gutierrez y Anastasia Soto; su tío y figura paterna, Lalo Gutierrez; sus hermanos; y 2 de sus hijos María Peña y Bartolo Gutierrez.

Le sobreviven su esposa de 57 años, Consuelo Gutierrez; sus hijos sobrevivientes; y numerosos nietos, bisnietos, tataranietos, sobrinos y sobrinas, quienes siempre atesorarán su memoria y continuarán su legado de amor y familia.

José vivió su vida firmemente arraigada en su fe católica, confiando en la gracia de Dios y en la promesa de la vida eterna. Creía profundamente en el poder de la oración, en la importancia de la familia y en vivir con humildad y amor. Aunque su camino en esta vida ha llegado a su fin, su familia encuentra consuelo al saber que José ha sido llamado al cielo, donde ahora descansa en paz eterna en la presencia del Señor. Reunido con quienes le precedieron, ahora participa de la promesa de la vida eterna. Su fe, amor y devoción continuarán guiando e inspirando a las generaciones venideras.

La velación se llevará a cabo el miércoles 28 de enero de 2026, de 5:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m., en Woody Funeral Home, ubicado en 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Virginia 23113.

Se celebrará una misa a las 12:00 p.m el jueves 29 de enero de 2026 en la Iglesia de la Epifanía, 11000 Smoketree Dr, Richmond, VA 23236. El entierro seguirá immediatamente en el Parque Memorial de Westhampton, ubicado en 10000 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23238.
