COINER, Joyce Faye Stickley, an angel walking the earth, departed for the heavens, Saturday, March 16, 2013 from Midlothian, Va. With her children by her side, Joyce peacefully transitioned, since her work and cancer education was complete. Joyce was born on April 30, 1947, in Rockbridge County. She lived most of her life in the Shenandoah Valley, and spent the last nine years in the Midlothian community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Mary Stickley, of Weyers Cave, Va., and husband, Blair C. Coiner Jr., of Staunton. She leaves behind three children, Renee Coiner Covington, Robin Coiner Campbell and Shad Coiner; three grandchildren, Zephaniah Campbell, Mary Hannah Covington and Julia Campbell; and three siblings, Christine Edwards, of Fort Defiance, Va., Guy Jacob Stickley Jr., of Harrisonburg, and Gene Stickley, of Harrisonburg. Everywhere she went, Joyce brought kindness, joy, smiles, laughter and rays of light. Being a spontaneous and "in the moment" MeMaw to her grandchildren, brought her the greatest satisfaction, joy and fulfillment. Second on the list, was her work. She was an entomologist, and spent many years tracking through Virginia's mountains, with her dog, Bear. She worked with landowners and counties to curb the gypsy moth infestation and destruction of hardwoods. Joyce spent many years admiring and educating people on nature and animals. She was also a lover of ponies, and was a dedicated show mom in the Valley. Joyce was an awesome trout fisherman, gardener, Halloween witch, and beloved friend. Joyce, a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to everyone she met, will be missed by many. Joyce and Renee would like to thank Dr. Gisa Schunn, Dr. Peter Buckman, Dr. Marc Margolis and their staff, for their amazing skill sets, dedication, passion and compassion. Thank you for giving her an extra seven years. Flowers may be sent to, and the following arrangements have been made: Friends and family night will be held at Woody's Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va. 23113, on Tuesday, March 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, at the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren in Weyers Cave, Va., at 2 p.m. A graveside service will follow, with a reception in the church hall.
