Karol Glasspoole Sharp

SHARP, Karol Glasspoole, 86, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017, in Midlothian, Va. Karol was born December 3, 1930 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Wendell and Kathryn Werlein Glasspoole, who, along with two brothers, Keith & Dave Glasspoole and her husband of 60 years, John Darrell Sharp, Sr. predeceased her. Karol attended Stout College prior to moving to Virginia in 1951 when she joined her husband who was serving in the United States Navy. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Vickerman (Brian); three sons, David John Sharp, John Darrell Sharp, Jr., and Jeffrey Daniel Sharp (Kim); her brother, Dan Glasspoole (Lois) of Winona, Minn. and a sister-in-law, Eileen Glasspoole of Hudson, Wisc.; eight grandchildren, Dawn Welch (Jamie), Amy Muir (Josh), Darrell Bowden (Triste), Kathryn Sharp, Jeffrey Sharp, Charles Sharp (Stina), Christine Sharp, Jessica Bruce (Tyler); and seventeen great-grandchildren, Lyndsay and Colton Welch; Emma, Abigail, Catherine, and Molly Muir; Tucker and Kinley Bowden; Brian, Jacob, and Hannah Devlin; Alena, Dre, Audriane and Angeline Sharp; Brandon Dooley, and Abel Bruce. Karol worked at The Richmond Police Department, The Veteran Administration Hospital and Phillip Morris, where she retired in 1992 as an administrative assistant to The Director of Research and Development and as Chairperson of The Art Committee. Following retirement, she and her husband John resided in Deltaville, Va. from 1994-2002. They were avid sailors and enjoyed sailing adventures with The Rappahannock River Yacht Club and via intercostal waterway excursions to Florida and the Caribbean where, for several years, they lived on their sailboat during the winter seasons. Karol volunteered at St. Francis Hospital after returning to Richmond. The love of her life was her family bringing her joy and happiness into her final days. Her Memorial Service will be at 3:00, Saturday, September 23, at Woody Funeral Home-Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Va. 23113.
