Margaret Mae "Peggy" Smilek

SMILEK, Margaret Mae “Peggy”, 73, of Richmond, died January 1, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lela Grammes Hopkins. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Stephen William Smilek; two brothers, Earl Hopkins and Donald Hopkins; eight children, Lee Smilek, Stephen S. Smilek, Virginia Derewiany, Nicholas E. Smilek, Sheryl Rainey, Michael Smilek, Sandra Smilek, and Martin Smilek, 22 grandchildren, Stephen, Krysten and Ryan Smilek, Stephanie and Max Derewiany, Gene and Christine Smilek, Megan Marcinkevich, Alex, Hart and Hope Rainey, Emily, Dustin, Allison, Preston, Grace, Sandra, Crimson, Drew, Brittany Swann and Zach and Austin Smilek; and two great-grandchildren, Peyton Marcinkevich and April Swann.

Mrs. Smilek ran a children’s day care out of her home for more than 20 years. She enjoyed arts and crafts with all her children and spending time with her family, which included polka dancing with her husband.

Her remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Bon Air Presbyterian Church. Interment Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
