

Mary Catherine Whetstone Garrison of Moseley, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, April 26, at the age of 40 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Mary spent her last days surrounded by family and loved ones.
Mary was born on August 24, 1981 and grew up in Chesterfield County, Virginia with her family. Mary attended Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Food, Nutrition and Exercise. After college, Mary went on to work at the Virginia State Health Department, Bon Secours Hospital and most recently Fresenius Kidney Care as a Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian. While at Virginia Tech, Mary met her husband Mark. Together they had two children, Kaylee and Kyle, whom Mary loved with all her heart.
Mary was an avid runner, ever since her cross-country days in high school. She also loved to travel, her favorite spots being Isle of Palms, South Carolina and New York City. Most recently she traveled to Aruba, Exuma and Jamaica on her search for perfect clear blue water.
Mary’s faith in her Lord and Savior was extremely important to her. Mary’s everlasting faith gave her the strength to withstand life’s most difficult challenges.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Murray Whetstone Jr; her maternal grandparents, Carl and Mary Tibbetts; her paternal grandparents, Floyd and Bessie Whetstone; her uncle, Freddy Tibbetts; and her father-in-law, Donnie Garrison. She is survived by her husband, Mark Garrison; children, Kaylee and Kyle; her mother, Ruth Tibbetts Whetstone Morgan (George); her three sisters, Susan Tambourine (Eric), Emily Wright (Kevin), and Sarah Whetstone; brother-in-law Paul Garrison (Darcie); nieces, Lily and Clara; nephews, Nathan, Garrett, Caden and Lucas; mothers-in-law, Diane Jenkins (Terry) and Sharon Garrison; and a host of other family and friends who will all miss her dearly.
Services will be held for her immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to VCU Massey Cancer Center.
