

Mary Louise Hagen Taylor, age 87, a longtime resident of Chesterfield County, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born April 26, 1938, to Charles P. and Roberta Traylor Hagen.
Mary Lou was a loving Mother and doting grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, reading, going to the beach, and spending time with her family and her cat, Toby.
Mary Lou, is survived by two children, Gene S. Taylor and Susan T. Headley and husband Ronnie; two grandchildren, Heather Taylor, and Taylor Headley; two nephews, David P. Greenawalt and Steven D. Greenawalt and wife, Dana; great nephews, Kevin, Jason and Ryan Greenawalt, and her cousin, Patricia A. Peterson, who was more like a second sister to her, all of Chesterfield County.
Mary was preceded in death by her former husband, Roy M. Taylor, her sister Roberta Ann Greenawalt, and her husband, Kenneth.
Mrs. Taylor graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Lynchburg College before transferring to William and Mary, where she earned a BA in Education. Mary Lou enjoyed playing field hockey for both colleges and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Following college, she graduated with a BA in education and taught Physical Education at J.R. Tucker High School in Henrico County. Once she began her own family, she took a leave of absence.
After staying home to raise her children, Mary explored other work opportunities, and she eventually landed a job working for the Defense Logistics Agency within the Department of Defense for over 23 years. While working at the Defense Supply Center Richmond or Bellwood, Mary Lou earned her Master's degree from Central Michigan University and became a management analyst, where she enjoyed traveling for work all over the country. She often used her spare time on these trips to pursue her passion for researching family genealogy.
Remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 27. Interment at Hollywood Cemetery at 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of Mary Lou’s life from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Reveille United Methodist Church, 4200 Carry St., Richmond.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reveille United Methodist Church, Lynchburg University, or William and Mary College.
