Mel was our neighbor for 22 years in Stonehenge. He was like another grandfather to our children, Kristin and Justin. We loved his garden and he always grew the best tomatoes and he was always willing to share them with us. He lived a long life and is now reunited with all of his Hokies in heaven. Rest in peace Mel.

My Pop was a wonderful man who helped shape my family into what it is today. He was a brilliant man who overcame a lot of obstacles and accomplished a lot throughout his life.

I loved to visit my Pop & we were very close. I loved just sitting around with him, watching golf, Virginia Tech Football, or listening to country music videos, all while eating some sort of sweet. (He loved snicker ice-cream bars) 

As my sister and I grew older and became busier with our own lives, we saw him less. Even though our visits to his house were less frequent, he always made an effort to call us daily and see how we were doing.

I am going to miss those calls, his jokes and his laughter, and his wisdom and love. One day in the future we will meet again in heaven.

Until then, I will carry you in my heart and you will never be far! We will all miss you and love you always.

As the oldest grand-daughter, I can say without a doubt that my Pop was one of the strongest people I knew.  I also know that his family meant the world to him.  His yearly Happy Birthday songs were always something we looked forward to hearing.  As much of a shock it is that he is gone, I know that life here on earth is only temporary.  It's the impact we leave on others that matters and the impact he had on mine words cannot describe.  The memories created will never be forgotten and I will treasure until the day we meet again.  There is a greater plan for us all and I trust that Pop now knows what that is.

Mel and I enjoyed several rounds of golf together as many hours on the practice tee.  What a find gentleman and role model for us all.  He conected me with his son, Kevin, who came to work with the company and is still there after more than 30 years.There a rew people that you are grateful God guided across our path of life.  Mel is one of those people.  May God grant peace and comfort to the family until you are with him again.

My deepest sympathy for a wonderful uncle. I have such fond memories of Lorena's visit to England and Uncle Melvin and grandson Corey to Colorado. He will be greatly missed. My heartfelt condolences to all.
