Mildred Oxendine Taylor, born January 16, 1948, in Lumberton, North Carolina, passed peacefully December 8, 2025, with her daughters by her side.
Galen, Mildred’s husband of 52 years, preceded her in death in July. Also preceding her are her parents, Aaron and Corina Oxendine; grandson, James Booth; daughter, Kimberly Taylor; and siblings, Aaron, Ernie, Broughton, James, Paul, and Eula.
She is survived by her children, Vicky Reedy (Brian), Barry Revels (Sandy), Vanessa Roeder (Mark), Galen, and Ashley; siblings, Delton, Grady, Robert, Hulan, Horace, Hilda, and Doris; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
At birth, she (the older twin) and Hilda weighed 17 pounds together. This drew the attention of everyone in the county. She was raised in church, where she loved to sing and worship. She passed her love for the Lord to her children. In the ’70s, before moving to California, she sang in a band that performed for wounded warriors at McGuire Veterans Hospital. Her passions for music, photography, and cats will be fondly remembered by her children.
The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, followed by 3 p.m. service at The Sanctuary, 505 Lakeview Ave., Colonial Heights, Virginia. Burial follows at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
The family would like to thank Woody Funeral Home, The Sanctuary, Wanda from Tyler’s Retreat, and A Touch of Grace Hospice, with special acknowledgment to Sam Johnson and Sam Bellamy for the love and care you have shown—“It’s nothing but love.”
