Ruth Lee Judd

Judd, Ruth Lee beloved mother and grandmother, passed peacefully in her sleep during the early morning of Friday, January 27, 2023 while at home surrounded by family. Ruth was born on May 20, 1928, in Memphis, TN, to Samuel and Fanny Weiss. Ruth grew up in Buffalo, NY graduating from Lafayette High School in 1946, and earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Buffalo in 1950. For over thirty years Ruth was an elementary school teacher, working in Niagara Falls, New York City, and Chesterfield County. In her retirement, Ruth loved spending time with family, sewing, tennis, travel, and had visited five of the seven continents. Her favorite locations included Italy, Alaska and Egypt. Ruth documented all of her travels with beautiful photo albums that she loved to share with family and friends. Ruth had a rich social life and was a member of the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) of Midlothian for close to 20 years. She was passionate about all forms of art, especially theater. Ruth was preceded in death by her stepson William J. Judd IV and is survived by her children Matthew and Christine Judd of Chantilly, VA, Sarah Van Dam of Midlothian, VA, Lorian and Ted Kostranchuk of Albuquerque, NM and Melody Lawton-Judd of Andover, OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren Megan Henrie (Nate) of Shiprock, NM, Adam Kuhn (Jess) of Albuquerque, NM, Amy Callahan of Orwell, OH, Keri Morris of Orwell, OH, Lillieth Van Dam of Midlothian, VA, Emilia Judd of Chantilly, VA and Noah Van Dam of Midlothian, VA. The family is grateful for the care and guidance provided by Hospice of Virginia. A future Celebration of Life will be planned.
