She was the daughter of Helen and Oliver Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Davis Whitehurst.
Sally fought a tough battle, continuing to show her strength and will until the very end. She touched the lives of so many at Crossroads at Bon Air and the family will be forever appreciative of all the staff there.
Sally was born in Alexandria, Virginia on April 6, 1943. After graduating from Longwood University, she married her soulmate and husband, Bob. She then became a teacher in Richmond where she thrived being around children. Sally’s lifetime dream was to be a mother, and she certainly fulfilled that dream by having three children soon after marriage. In addition to being a wonderful mother, Sally found time for countless hours of volunteering at many organizations in the Richmond area. Her generosity and caring heart made a major impact on all the organizations she supported. She also enjoyed tennis, swimming, the ocean and bay, book clubs and years of close friendships and travel with so many wonderful friends.
Sally never met a stranger, and her only fault was not being able to say “no”. She was the life of the party, first to organize meals for friends, plan wedding and baby showers and host parties and events. Anyone that knew Sally would describe her as a shining light in this world.
Above all, her biggest accomplishment was her family and marriage to her husband, Bob, setting an example for her children and others that witnessed their incredible, selfless love for each other. The family feels strength in knowing that they are reunited.
Sally is survived by her three children, Ann (Chris) Cottrell, Molly (Michael) First, Robert Davis Whitehurst Jr, and seven grandchildren, Morgan (Michael) Daigle, Matthew Cottrell, Tyler First, Jackson First, Quinn Whitehurst, Bella Whitehurst and Sydney Robertson. Sally also holds a special place in the hearts of many others in the Whitehurst family. Her smile and spunk will be missed by all that knew her.
A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
