Thomas Leslie Jenkins, Jr.

JENKINS, Thomas Leslie “TL”, 92, passed away January 18, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Myrtle; four children, Thomas L. (Betsy), William H. (Clemmie), Kenneth F. (Rhonda) and Susan (Patrick) Gregory; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

TL was raised in Sunny Side, Va., attended VPI until he entered the United States Navy, where he served as an aviation mechanic in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After the war, he and Myrtle made their home on Courthouse Road in Chesterfield, where they raised their family. They became faithful members of Providence United Methodist Church, and he served the community with the quiet dignity that characterized his life. TL worked his entire career at McGuire VA Medical Center. He was an incredible engineer who could build or fix almost anything. He represented the best of “The Greatest Generation!”

Visitation for family and friends will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 22, at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Va. 23113. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 23, at Providence United Methodist Church, 901 S. Providence Road, Richmond, Va. 23226, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in TL’s name to the church.
