Dear Stembridge Family- I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I use to sit by Tom a coule years ago and got to know him very well. He made me laugh alot. He shared great stories all the time. He loved to talk about his trips with the family to NC and fishing. He was very proud of his sons. I know he will be missed by many friends here Capital One. I am glad I got to know him.  Take care!

Dear Tom,
You will be missed on our team greatly for all the insights and tips you provided to us on DB2.  Please don't be mad at the angels now though.  The poor things probably don't even know the ABCs of DB2 :) Have fun wherever you are.

Tom and I started at Capital One on the same day.  We were the first and for the longest time the only DB2 DBAs at Capital One.  Tom would describe us as two square pegs trying to fit in round holes.  I was so glad to have Tom there with me.  He’s been my buddy for the past eleven years.  I could always go to him when I became unsettled about something.  Talks with Tom would always make me feel better.  Just last week I thought I have to call Tom. As soon as I completed the thought I realized those days had come to an end.  I will definitely miss him.  I’ll miss the long conversations we would have and the stories we would share. Tom was a wealth of knowledge in just about everything.  He’s helped me both at work and at home.  While talking to Tom one day I mentioned I needed to replace a window because water had caused the casing to rot.  I came to know from Tom, given the life of my house, my window should still be under warranty.  He helped me locate the manufacturer and I was able to get a replacement window at no cost.  Just about a month ago Tom and Charlie replaced the light fixtures in my garage and lowered them to a height that allows me to easily replace the bulbs myself.  No more placing an eight foot ladder in the back of a pickup truck and sending one of the boys up it to replace a bulb while my other son and I held the ladder.  Thank goodness!  I remember telling Tom sometimes I would go in the garage just to turn on my new lights.   I know Tom loved his family and was proud of his sons.  He talked of you all fondly on many occasions.  I’m so sorry for your loss.

Condolences to Tom's family and closest friends. I met Tom through my Uncle Reggie when they worked together at Overnite over 20 years ago.  It was Tom's love for offshore fishing in Hatteras that got me started and his passing on the gift of offshore fishing will never be forgotten.  Tom's trips were full of firsts - first tuna, first marlin, first and biggest wahoo.  Endless stories and laughs that we all should hold onto.  Tom - you will be missed.  God Bless.

Tom and I had a long professional association. I am saddened by his untimely demise. We all will miss his witty interjections during the meetings. My condolences and sympathies with the family.

I met Tom a little over 10 years ago when I was asked to do a technical interview with him for a DB2 DBA role at Capital One.  Tom not only passed the interview, but overwhelmed me with his knowledge.   I learned more about DB2 in the 1 hour interview than I had learned in my 9 years working with the database software. 

After he was hired, our paths crossed off and on for about 6 years.   The last 4 years I worked very closely with Tom with the last 3 being his manager.   The relationship between Tom and I grew very close over this time I had come to think of him as family. Tom would always take on projects like building decks, sheds, fences, etc. and during the last year,  he made sure that I always received the wood from the previous structures he tore down.   I have used this wood to build decks, porches, steps and even buildings of my own because he took the time to make sure the wood was in good shape when he tore the old structure down.  

I am going to miss Tom, especially our 10/10’s we had on my drive from and to work.  We would solve so many problems during this time and had lots of time to bond.  I can never forget him because of all of the structures I have built with his lumber.  Every time I look at these structures, I will know it would have never existed without Tom making sure I had the lumber.  

Tom has invited me to go fishing many times and for some reason I could not go.  I really regret now that I did not make the time.

Tom, thanks for all the time and knowledge you gave over the years.  For the humor you brought with you. Thanks for your patience and help in getting through all the database 'stuff' that confounded me. Thanks for all the great stories and fishing tales. I count you as one of my special friends. You will be remembered forever.

It is good to know that the database known as the Book of Names will now be looked after by the best darn DBA there ever can be.

Tom will forever have a place in my memories.

Tom, I am going to miss you buddy.  Going to miss your Brunswick stew, wild tales of your youth, wild tales of your adult life, your incredible technical talent at work, your incredible knowledge and craftsmanship outside of work, your no-nonsense approach to communication, fishing stories and fresh fish from the Outer Banks, your visits to the house, sharing my wild game sausage with you, and much more.  There is a good deal of you that lives on at my house and in my memories.  The oak floor you put in for me downstairs is like a piece of furniture it is so well done and beautiful.  My dog Bailey will miss you too.  You always said what a good dog she was and she obviously liked you too.  Neither of us will forget the time you came over to help me mount the dog door and frame the new door after we installed the dog door.  Bailey thanks you every day for your kindness and her independence.  To Tom's family, I just want to say I am so sorry for your loss.  Tom was truly a unique character and a person I will never forget.  I know how much Tom loved you all because he always talked about you when he came over.  I hope the pain of your loss fades into fond memories of a wonderful person as time moves on.  I got to say this a couple of weeks ago to you on the phone during a meeting and glad I did.  Tom, I luv ya man!

I worked with Tom on and off for may years. He was always quick to help out when I called on him. I am sorry for your loss. He will indeed be missed by many, including myself.

I worked with Tom for many years.  I depended on him so much to always have the correct answer.   I will miss Tom a lot, both personally and professionally.
