

Born in St. Cloud MN on May 27, 1924, son of William J. and Mabel Murphy Hagen and graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School class of 1943. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943. He served as a Musician at the USN School of Music,Washington DC, 1943-1944. Stationed aboard numerous ships he was proud of his service on the USS New Jersey during World War II 1944-1947.While on the USS Boston and the USS Macon, 1959-1960, he was assigned to lead the United States Military Band during the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway where he had the honor of playing for President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Queen Elizabeth II. Upon retirement from active duty 1964 he went to work for the Department of the Navy as a Technical Librarian at the Washington Navy Yard until retiring in 1985. During this time he also played for the Washington Redskins Band.
Surviving are his daughter Marina Sedonic and husband Michael, of Dunmore PA, his son William R. and wife Julie and grandchildren Connor, Chad and Kailey of No. Chesterfield VA.; sister Elaine and brother Dale of Coon Rapids MN.
