

Arlie Marie Anderson went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2015. A life-long educator, Arlie was born in Eulogy, Texas on July 30, 1929 to Willie Marie Williams and Arlie Monroe Anderson. After her mother died in childbirth, Ms. Anderson was brought up by her paternal aunt, Mary Cox Wingate in the rural areas near Clarendon, Texas and Calumet, Oklahoma. Ms. Anderson was graduated from Oklahoma City’s Central High in 1947 and from Southwestern State College at Weatherford, in 1952 with degrees in Industrial Arts and Physical Education. Ms. Anderson was the first woman in Oklahoma to major in Industrial Arts. She began her academic duties in Crawford, Oklahoma where she taught Industrial Arts, Physical Education, and coached basketball. After completing a Master’s at the University of Oklahoma in 1957 she began a career with the Bureau of Indian affairs that would last for over a quarter of a century. While in the Indian service in Arizona she taught a Phoenix Indian School where she retired as Assistant Principal. Miss A., as she was called by her students, is remembered for her loyalty to her school, her selfless devotion to duty, and her dedication to student well-being. Ms. Anderson retired to Oklahoma City in 1980. She is a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Midwest City. She is survived by her cousins, Joe and Linda Colley, her half-sister Marilyn Neil, and her good friends Lonnie and Ronnie Keenom.
