Betty Janet Sanford Webb, 92, beloved wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and true friend peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on July 19, 2020 in Salt Lake City with family by her side. She lived a long and meaningful life.
Janet was born on October 28, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clarence Adiel Sanford and May Elizabeth Simons. She grew up in a home by Liberty Park with her siblings Bob Sanford, Marge Mellor, and Ron Sanford. After graduation from South High School in Salt Lake City, she met Charles Richard Webb, an Army Master Sargent who had just returned home from service in the South Pacific during World War II. Janet and Charlie began dating and were married on November 23, 1946. In 1959, their marriage was solemnized for eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 61 years, until Charlie’s death on June 6, 2008. Janet worked for Sears in downtown Salt Lake City for many years selling draperies and then in their accounting office.
She and Charlie raised four beautiful daughters to be hard-working, God loving, and trustworthy citizens. Janet took pride in being a homemaker. She kept an immaculately clean house that she enjoyed decorating into a beautiful home to entertain her family for birthdays, BBQs, and the annual Christmas Eve party. She was fond of all types of crafts, from painting the many wooden handicrafts Charlie built to crocheting afghan blankets for each of her daughters and grandchildren. Even into her 90’s she enjoyed crocheting washcloths as gifts for family and friends. She loved to travel and took annual vacations, to read, and to spend time with her family. She often reminded her family to enjoy their lives each and every day because life goes by so quickly.
Janet’s legacy lives on through her four daughters, Carolyn (Ronald) Thacker of Star Valley Ranch, WY, Christine (K.C.) Jones of Idaho Falls, ID, Charlene (Fred) Butterfield of Sandy, Utah, and Catherine (Alex) Cimos of Park City, Utah. 15 grandchildren, Jeff Thacker, Carrie Long, Jodi Patterson, Chesley Jones, Tyler Jones, Blake (Jenny) Jones, Garrett (Kaydi) Jones, Kevin (Mindie) Butterfield, Michelle (Bob) McFarlane, Chad (Tyree) Butterfield, Robin (Cameron) Smart, Michael Adams, Steven (Tessa) Adams, Bradley (Danielle) Adams, and Anneka Cimos. 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and her sister, Marge Mellor.
Janet was preceded in death and is now reunited with her parents, husband, two brothers, and four grandsons, Brian Michael Adams, Morgan Orval Jones, Mitchell Clarence Jones, and Brian Richard Butterfield; all who have been anxiously awaiting her arrival.
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic a funeral will not be held. A graveside service will be limited to family. Janet will be laid to rest next to her husband on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, UT 84106.
