

Carma Stevens Pedersen, 84, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 8, 2016, following a stroke. She was born in Evanston, Wyoming, July 17, 1932, the daughter of Leland H. and Myrtle Tuttle Stevens, the youngest of nine children. Carma attended elementary, junior high and part of high school in Evanston after which the family moved to Salt Lake City where she graduated from East High School. She was a graduate of the U of U and earned a Master's Degree from BYU. Carma was an outstanding physical education teacher. Her devotion to her students blessed the lives of countless individuals throughout her teaching and coaching career at Evergreen and Westlake Jr. High Schools. While teaching at Westlake, she met her sweetheart, Gil Pedersen. Carma and Gil were married on June 3, 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple and were devoted companions for 45 years. Carma grew up in an athletic family where she learned to love sports and was involved in them for the rest of her life. She enjoyed all sports especially softball, basketball, golf, gymnastics, football, bowling and the Olympics. In 2011 she was recognized by the Salt Lake County Recreation Department for her thirty-five years of service and was inducted into the Utah Softball Hall of Fame in 2013. Carma was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings including ward, stake and regional sports director. Carma loved her family and friends deeply. In return, they adored her. She was an intensely loyal friend whose generous spirit, giving heart and fun-loving personality were magnetic. To know Carma was to love her. Carma is survived by her husband, Gil, son, William (Karen), and three grandchildren, Brian, Becky (Joe), and Hannah; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: Marge, Esther (McGarry), Bill, Dick, Tally, Howard, Ron and Don. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 14 at 11:00 am, Holladay 25th Ward, 4650 Naniloa Dr. Holladay, Utah. Viewings will be held Wednesday prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:30 am, and Tuesday evening 6 - 8:00 pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive.
