Command Sergeant Major
Charles Edwin Comstock passed through the veil surrounded by his loving family on February 2, 2016. He was born on June 1, 1932 in Montrose, Colorado to parents Wilford F Comstock and Doloris A Clark. He married Bonnie Merriam on June 7, 1958 and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 23, 1973. He is survived by sons Kelly and wife Leslie, Craig and wife Jamie and daughter Cami and husband Josh. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, brother Kenneth Comstock, and other loved ones Jodi Comstock, Jeanine Comstock and Ginnette and Bob Kaid. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Randy, sisters Betty Tolman and Joyce Nelson.
After graduation from Jordan High School, Charles joined the army. He served in Korea and reached the rank of Sergeant. He also joined the National Guard in the 144th EVAC hospital unit and retired as a Command Sergeant Major. Charles later operated the Salt Lake Dental Laboratory in partnership with his son Kelly. He retired in 2009. Charles taught us to stand for what we feel is right even if it makes us seem mean. He also believed we are to get up every day no matter how much pain we are in and live well until the day we take our last breath. Charles was an active member of the LDS church where he served in numerous quorums, young men's, ward and stake leadership positions including Bishop. He fought a good fight, finished his course and kept the faith until the very end. He was a man of great humility and unwavering integrity. He loved the gospel with all his heart and soul. He has a plaque that says "The greatest gift we ever had, it came from God and we call him Dad." Charles was a beloved son, brother, grandfather, husband, Dad, cousin, nephew and now a guardian angel. Never one to sit idle, he could fix anything. He enjoyed doing things with his hands. Whether it was creating the perfect denture, making his famous boxes, crafting exquisite eggs or designing his intricate doodles, he was always looking for ways to make something beautiful. Many people have treasured mementos in their homes given to them by Charles. He will be so missed for his special skills and common sense. His love for life and his desire to serve made him a wonderful example of Christ like love. We are grateful for our knowledge of the plan of salvation and we know that our patriarch has been taken home to a loving Heavenly Father. He is now with his Mom, Dad and beloved son Randy. We will sorely miss our "Papa" and long for the day when we will be united once again.
