

Darlene Delta Johnson Hummel passed away March 16, 2015. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter Arthur and Delta Mae Comish Johnson on March 7, 1926; married Kenneth Henry Hummel on November 2, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 3, 1981. She attended South High, graduating in 1944.
During her senior year, she met her husband to be while he was stationed at Kearns Army Depot, prior to being assigned to the D-day invasion. They were engaged for the 18-month duration of his service and married 2 weeks after his release. They settled in Chatsworth, Illinois, Ken’s hometown, and enjoyed a life of farming for 17 years. Four children later, they returned to Utah and 3 years later added “the best mistake” that Dad said he ever made.
She enjoyed boating, skiing, bowling, playing golf and tennis and traveling. She became an extraordinary artist. She loved family dinners and entertaining. Everyone felt welcome in her home. She was also an accomplished crazy cat lady (minus the crazy).
She is survived by her daughters Karrie Hummel, Pam Ellington and Shanna Bedell, sons Kent (Rosie) and Jeff (Teri), nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
